[Aleph] Lamed and dollars

Hi!

I'm fighting with Lamed  what looks like an ultrasimple case:

\usepackage[greek, ngerman]{babel}

 test 50\$ and 50\textdollar text

However, instead of seeing the two dollar signs I get with running
this file through normal Latex (after removing the OCP-related stuff,
of course), I get the following error message:

! Too many }'s.
<recently read> \egroup

l.24  test 50\$
                and 50\textdollar text
-----------------------------------------

I'd be grateful for any pointer on what's going wrong here and how I
can avoid this problem.
